আজ এ মহানায়কের ২২তম মৃত্যুবার্ষিক। তাঁর প্রতি বিনম্র শ্রদ্ধার অংশ হিসেবে আজকের এই নিবেদন।
১৯৭১ সালের ১৯শে সেপ্টেম্বর সিলেট মহানগরীর দাড়িয়াপাড়ায় নানাবাড়িতে তাঁর জন্ম।বাবা কমরউদ্দিন আহমেদ চৌধুরী পেশায় ছিলেন ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট,আর মা নীলা চৌধুরী ছিলেন রাজনীতিক ও সংগীত শিল্পী আর মাতামহ ছিলেন বাংলাদেশ এর প্রথম সবাক চলচ্চিত্র মুখ ও মুখোশ এর অন্যতম উদ্যোক্তা ও অভিনেতা। পারিবারিক এরুপ সাংস্কৃতিক আবহেই ধীরে ধীরে বেড়ে উঠেন তিনি।১৯৮৫/৮৬ সালের দিকে হানিফ সংকেতের গ্রন্থনায় ‘কথার কথা ‘নামে একটি ম্যাগাজিন অনুষ্ঠান প্রচারিত হত। এর কোন একটি পর্বে ‘নামটি ছিল তার অপূর্ব’ নামের একটি গানের মিউজিক ভিডিও পরিবেশিত হয়। হানিফের সংকেতের স্বকন্ঠে গাওয়া এই গান এবং মিউজিক ভিডিও দুটোই অনুষ্ঠানের জন্য বিশেষভাবে নির্মিত।
একজন সম্ভাবনাময় সদ্য তরুণ তার পরিবারের নানারকমের ঝামেলার কারনে মাদকাসক্ত হয়ে মারা যায়, এই ছিল গানটির থিম। গানের প্রধান চরিত্র অপূর্বর ভূমিকায় অভিনয়ের মাধ্যমেই সালমান শাহ মিডিয়াতে প্রথম আলোচিত হন।তখন অবশ্য তিনি ইমন নামেই পরিচিত ছিলেন। মিউজিক ভিডিওটি জনপ্রিয়তা পেলেও নিয়মিত টিভিতে না আসার কারনে দর্শক আস্তে আস্তে ইমনকে ভুলে যায়। আরও কয়েক বছর পর অবশ্য তিনি আব্দুল্লাহ আল মামুনের প্রযোজনায় পাথর সময় নাটকে একটি ছোট চরিত্রে এবং কয়েকটি বিজ্ঞাপনচিত্রেও কাজ করেছিলেন।পরবর্তী কালে ১৯৯৩ সালে পরিচালক সোহানুর রহমান সোহানের হাত ধরে চলচ্চিত্রে অভিষেক হয় চৌধুরী মোহাম্মদ শাহরিয়ার এর । প্রথম ছবি ‘কেয়ামত থেকে কেয়ামত’। আর প্রথম ছবিতে অভিনয়ের মধ্য দিয়েই নিজেকে নিয়ে আসেন আলোচনার কেন্দ্রবিন্দুতে। ইমন থেকে হয়ে যান সালমান শাহ।

সময়টা ১৯৯৪’র আগস্ট। সালমান তখন তুমি আমার ছবির আউটডোর শ্যুটিং এ কক্সবাজারে অবস্থান করছিলেন। অকস্মাৎ একদল তরুণী সালমানের কাছে অটোগ্রাফের বায়না ধরে৷ ব্যস্ততার হেতু দেখিয়ে তিনি অটোগ্রাফ দিতে অপারগতা কিংবা বিলম্ব হওয়ায় ঘটে এক বিস্ময়কর ঘটনা। ঐ দলের এক তরুণী এতই কষ্ট পায় যে তৎক্ষণাৎ পাহাড় থেকে ঝাঁপ দিতে উদ্যত হয়। সালমান সেটা খেয়াল করে অতিসত্বর তরুণীকে এহেন কাজ হতে নিবৃত্ত করে ভবিষ্যতে এরকম না করার জন্য মৃদু বকে দেন। তাঁকে ঘিরে ভক্ত অনুরাগীদের এমন হাজারো পাগলামি কিংবদন্তি হয়ে ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে আছে। এমনকি মৃত্যুর এত বছর পেরিয়ে গেলেও সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যমে তাঁকে নিয়ে ভক্তদের উৎসাহ উন্মাদনার এতটুকু কমতি নেই।

দিনটি ছিল ৬ ই সেপ্টেম্বর, শুক্রবার ১৯৯৬ সাল। আট দশটা স্বাভাবিক দিনের মত পেরিয়ে যাচ্ছিল সেদিনের সময়। সেদিন বিকেলে বাংলাদেশ টেলিভিশনের ৫ টার সংবাদের একটি খবরে পুরো বাংলাদেশ যেন থমকে দাঁড়িয়েছিল। পিনপতন নিরবতা গ্রাস করে দিয়েছিল যেন এই নদীবিধৌত বদ্বীপকে। বেরসিক সংবাদ পাঠক বিমূর্ত হয়ে জানালেন, সালমান শাহ আর নেই। রহস্যজনক মৃত্যু হয়েছে তাঁর। ভক্তরা যেন কিছুতেই মেনে নিতে পারছিল না মহানায়কের এই প্রস্থান। ঘটনার আকস্মিকতায় প্রায় বারোজন তরুণী জীবন সংহার ঘটিয়েছিলেন তীব্র শোকের তাপে। তাঁর মৃত্যুর ঘটনা পরিণত হয়েছিল Talk of the town এ৷ বিবিসি নিউজে গুরুত্বের সাথে প্রচারিত হয় তার এহেন প্রয়াণের কথা। তাঁর মৃত্যুর অব্যবহিত পর ঢালিউডে নেমে আসে ধস। সালমান শাহ ছাড়া কোন মুভি দর্শকের সামনে নিয়ে আসার সাহস পাচ্ছিলেন না পরিচালকরা।
বিকল্প পন্থা হিসেবে অনেক নায়ককে অবিকল সালমানের বেশভূষা দিয়ে হাজির করানোর চেষ্টা করলেও তা ধোপে টিকেনি। মাথায় পট্টি বেঁধে হাজির করানো হয় আজকের প্রতিষ্ঠিত নামিদামি অনেক তারকাকে। কিন্তু দর্শক কখনোই তা মেনে নেয়নি। চলচ্চিত্র বোদ্ধাদের মতে তার এই প্রস্থানে যে ক্ষতি হয়েছে তা অপূর্ণই রয়ে যাবে। তবে মহানায়ক এর মৃত্যুকে ঘিরে জমেছে রহস্যের জট।ইস্কাটন এর নিজ ফ্ল্যাটে তার লাশ পাওয়া যায়। তার পরিবার,ঘনিষ্ঠজন এবং ভক্তদের পক্ষ থেকে দাবি করা হয় যে,তাঁকে হত্যা করা হয়েছে এবং তারা এও মনে করেন যে,এর পেছনে চলচ্চিত্র ও মিডিয়া জগতের অনেক রথী মহারথীরা জড়িত। একাধিক বার তদন্তের শেষে তার হত্যা মামলাটি বর্তমানে পুলিশ ব্যুরো অব ইনভেস্টিগেশন (পি বি আই) এর তদন্তাধীন।হত্যা কিংবা আত্মহত্যা যাই হোক না কেন তা যেন এই তদন্তের মাধ্যমে বের হয়ে আসে এটাই সকলের কাম্য। যেখানেই থাকুক, ভাল থাকুক আমাদের সকলের প্রিয় এ মহানায়ক। সবশেষে রুদ্র মুহাম্মদ শহিদুল্লাহর সুরে সুর মিলিয়ে বলতে চাই
