আবুল আব্বাস আস -সাফফাহ, যিনি নিজের নামেই জুড়ে দিয়েছেন নিষ্ঠুরতার তকমা। ৭৫০ সালের জানুয়ারিতে আব্বাসী খিলাফতের প্রথম খলিফা হিসেবে যখন কুফা মসজিদে তিনি আত্মপ্রকাশ করেন তখন মুসলিম উম্মাহ কল্পনাও করতে পারেনি এমন নির্দয় এবং রাজনৈতিক কূটকৌশলী একজনকে তারা ক্ষমতায় বসিয়েছে। অধিক মাত্রায় সন্দেহপ্রবন আবুল আব্বাস চেয়েছিলেন উমাইয়া বংশের সবাইকে সমূলে উৎপাটন করতে এবং পেরেছেনও তা। সম্ভাব্য প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বীদের হত্যা করে ক্ষমতা করেছেন নিরঙ্কু শ। চরম স্বেচ্ছাচারী আচরণে কলংকিত করেছেন আব্বাসী খিলাফত। সেই নিষ্ঠুর শাসকের গল্প শুনাবো আজ।
৭৪৯ সালের ৩০ অক্টোবর কুফার মসজিদে প্রথম আব্বাসী খলিফা হিসেবে যখন আবুল আব্বাস ঘোষিত হন তখনো পর্যন্ত উমাইয়াদের ওপর আব্বাসীয়দের চূড়ান্ত বিজয় অর্জিত হয়নি। এর পরের বছরের ২৫ জানুয়ারি যখন জাবের যুদ্ধে দ্বিতীয় মারওয়ান পরাজিত ও নিহত হন তখন আবারো দ্বিতীয়বারের মত আবুল আব্বাস মুসলিম জাহানের খলিফা নির্বাচিত হন। জনগণও তার নিকট সম্মিলিতভাবে আনুগত্যের শপথ করে। খিলাফতে আরোহন করেই তিনি নিজের নামের পাশে সেঁটে দেন আস-সাফফাহ বা রক্তপায়ী উপাধি। তার প্রথম লক্ষ্যমাত্রা পূরণ করতে সাম্রাজ্যের সব উমাইয়াদের তালিকা গঠন করেন। উমাইয়াদের দমনের পাশাপাশি বিরুদ্ধবাদী এমনকি যাদের উপর তার সন্দেহ তাদেরও পৃথিবী থেকে বিদায় করে দেয়ার নীলনকশা অংকন করেন।

ইতিমধ্যে উমাইয়া নেতৃবৃন্দের একটি তালিকা আবুল আব্বাসের হাতে এসে পৌছায়। খিলাফতে অধিষ্ঠানের বছরেই আবুল আব্বাস এক নজিরবিহীন কাণ্ড ঘটান। ৭৫০ সালের ২৫ জুন আব্বাসের সেনাপতি আব্দুল্লাহ ফিলিস্তিনের আবু ফুট্রুস নামক জায়গায় উমাইয়া বংশের ৮০ জন নেতাকে এক নৈশভোজের আমন্ত্রণ জানান। আপ্যায়ন পর্ব শেষ হওয়ার সাথে সাথে কোনকিছু বুঝে উঠার আগে নির্মমভাবে সব উমাইয়া নেতা নিহত হন। এই ঘটনার কিছুদিন পর বসরায়ও একই কায়দায় উমাইয়াদের হত্যা করা হয়। উমাইয়াদের সব স্মৃতি ভণ্ডুল করে দিতে কবর থেকে মৃতদেহ উত্তোলন করে তার ওপর আক্রোশ মেটায় আব্বাসীয়রা, অপমান করা হয় মৃতদের। ভুলবশত মুয়াবিয়া এবং ন্যায়পরায়ণতার জন্য উমর বিন আব্দুল আজিজের কবর আব্বাসীদের দানবগ্রাস থেকে রক্ষা পায়।
একথা সত্য যে, উমাইয়াদের প্রতি সাধারন জনগণের ক্ষোভ ছিল। আবার বিপরীতে একথাও সত্য যে হযরত আলী ও ফাতিমা (রা) এর প্রতি তাদের ছিল অবিরাম ভালবাসা। কিন্তু আবুল আব্বাস উমাইয়াদের ধ্বংসে সাধনের যে পন্থা অবলম্বন করেছিলেন তা সাধারণ মানুষ সমর্থন করেনি। ফলে অচিরেই উমাইয়াদের প্রতি সাধারনের সহানুভূতি জেগে উঠে। এই সুযোগে উমাইয়াদের লুকিয়ে থাকা নেতারা হিমস, কিন্নিসিরিন, ফিলিস্তিন ও মেসোপটেমিয়ায় আস সাফফাহর বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ শুরু করে৷ সাধারন মানুষদের কেউবা দাড়িগোঁফ কামিয়ে আব্বাসী শাসনের প্রতিবাদ করতে থাকে। ধীরে ধীরে জনমত যখন আবুল আব্বাসের বিপরীতে চলে যেতে লাগল তখন তিনি এক চতুর উপায় অবলম্বন করলেন। রাজ্যজুড়ে তিনি প্রচার করতে থাকেন কারবালার হত্যাকাণ্ড এবং পরবর্তীতে হুসাইন (রা) এর পরিবারের প্রতি উমাইয়াদের দুর্ব্যবহারের কেচ্ছাকাহিনী। আব্বাসের দলের এমনতর প্রচারণার ফলে জনগণও শীতল হয়ে যেতে শুরু করল এবং আস সাফফাহর কর্মকাণ্ড তাদের কাছে যৌক্তিক মনে হতে থাকল।

দ্বিতীয় মারওয়ানের পরাজয়ের পরও ইরাকের উমাইয়া শাসক ইয়াজিদ ইবনে হুবাইবা ওয়াসিত শহরে নিজের প্রভাব প্রতিপক্ষ অক্ষুণ্ণ রাখেন। আব্বাসী খিলাফতকে টেক্কা দিতে ইয়াজিদ নতুন এক কৌশল গ্রহণ করেন। হযরত আলীর সরাসরি বংশধর আব্দুল্লাহ ইবনে হাসানকে খলিফা ঘোষণা করেন। আব্বাস এই ঘোষণায় বিপাকে পড়ে যান এবং খুব শীঘ্রই তার ভাই মনসুর এবং সেনাপতি হাসান ইবনে কাহতাবাকে ইয়াজিদকে দমনের উদ্দেশ্যে প্রেরণ করেন। আব্বাসীয় বাহিনী প্রায় ১১ মাস ইয়াজিদকে অবরুদ্ধ রাখে। শেষ পর্যন্ত ইয়াজিদ আত্মসমর্পণ করলেও তাকে সপরিবারে হত্যা করা হয়।
নিরঙ্কুশ ক্ষমতার অধিকারী সাফফাহ!
হযরত আলী (রা) তার প্রথম রাজধানী স্থাপন করেছিলেন কুফায়৷ কিন্তু কুফাবাসীর চরিত্রে দ্ব্যর্থকতা থাকার কারণে হযরত আলীকে এর মূল্য দিতে হয়েছিল। তাই আস সাফফাহও এই আবেগকে কাজে লাগিয়ে কুফায় তার রাজধানী স্থাপন করেন৷ পরবর্তীতে তার হাত শক্তিশালী করে হীরার অদূরে আল-আনবার নামক জায়গায় তার নতুন রাজধানী স্থাপন করেন। সেথায় তিনি আল হাশিমিয়া নামের একটি রাজপ্রসাদ নির্মাণ করে আব্বাসী স্থাপত্যে তাক লাগিয়ে দেন। তার হাতকে আরো শক্তিশালী করতে তিনি প্রদেশের গভর্ণর এবং কেন্দ্রীয় পদে তার নিজ লোকদের বসান।
কেন্দ্রীয় উজির হত্যা
আব্বাসী খিলাফতের কেন্দ্রীয় উজির ছিলেন আবু সালমা নামের এক অ-আব্বাসীয় ব্যক্তি। তার নিজ যোগ্যতা দিয়েই এ পদ তিনি অলংকৃত করেছিলেন। কিন্তু তা সহ্য হয়নি আবু মুসলিম নামের আরেক পদপ্রত্যাশীর। তিনি গোপনে খলিফাকে ফুসলাতে থাকেন আবু সালমা খারাপ, হযরত আলী (রা) এর বংশধরের প্রতি তিনি অনুরক্ত। মিথ্যা সাক্ষ্য দিয়ে তা প্রমাণও করে ফেলেন আবু মুসলিম। এর পর পরই রাতের আধাঁরে কে বা কারা আবু সালমাকে হত্যা করে বসে। অবশ্য পরবর্তীতে আবু মুসলিমের বেলায়ও এমন পরিকল্পনা নেয়া হয়েছিল কিন্তু তা বাস্তবায়ন হয়নি।
হত্যা, পালটা হত্যা, বিদ্রোহ দমন, সন্দেহ করেই কেটে যায় সাফফাহর ৫ বছরের শাসনামল। ৭৫৪ সালের জুন মাসে চিকেন পক্সে আক্রান্ত হয়ে মাত্র ৩০ বছর বয়সে আল আনবারে তার মৃত্যু হয়। সাথে করে অবসান হয় এক রক্তপিপাসুর কলংকজনক অধ্যায়।
